Urban Encounters is a table top trade show held in two locations (Edmonton and Calgary). The main focus is two-fold. Firstly, it is held to showcase the latest products and services for commercial and residential suppliers to the Alberta Interior Design community. Secondly, it is an opportunity to bring the design and supply community together in an informal, social atmosphere to help in the establishment of mutually beneficial client-vendor relationships.

The Interior Designers of Alberta is pleased to announce the Call for Entries for the 2009 IDA Design Competition. The 2009 IDA Design Competition is open to all members of the Interior Design Community of Alberta.

The Categories for submission are as follows:
- Office - Over $80.00/sq. ft. Construction Cost
- Office - Under $80.00/sq.ft. Construction Cost
- Retail
- Hospitality/Restaurant
- Residential (4 sub-categories)
- Condominiums (2 sub-categories)
- Institutional/Health Care
- Special Projects
In order to qualify for submission, all projects must have been completed within the last three years and ready for occupancy before August 15, 2009.
The Deadline for Submission of Entries: Noon, September 15, 2009

Managers who wish to increase their understanding of the Alberta Building Code.

The 3-hour morning session will focus on Part 3 changes to the 2006 Alberta Building Code (ABC). The course
will present a summary of the technical changes and significant editorial changes to Part 3. The course
compares the 1997 ABC requirements with the new 2006 ABC requirements in order that the participants can
appreciate the type and extent of the changes.
The 3-hour afternoon session will deal with changes to the format of the Code, specifically objective and
functional statements. The course will present an overview of the new format of the 2006 ABC and provide
the participants with an understanding of the methods by which alternatives to code requirements are developed
and evaluated. Through workshop sessions participants gain hands-on knowledge of the complexity and design
flexibility in developing alternative solutions to code requirements.
Attendees are able to attend either one of the sessions or both (at a discounted rate).
ELIGIBILITY FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS
Each session will be eligible for 3 CEU IDA Continuing Education Points and 3 AAA Core Competency Learning

| IDA Annual General Meeting |
|
Reminder: the 2007 Annual General Meeting of the Interior Designers of Alberta will be
held via video conference on Tuesday, November 27th, 2007 beginning at 5:00pm.
The video conference meeting will be held simultaneously in both Calgary and Edmonton.
In Calgary, the location will be:
- 901 - 10th Avenue SW
- (offices of West Canadian)
- Access will be available beginning at 4:30 p.m.
- The meeting will start promptly at 5 p.m. and conclude by 6:30 p.m.
In Edmonton, the location will be:
- Sharp's Audio Visual
- 10552 - 106 Street
- Access will be available beginning at 4:45 p.m.
- The meeting will start promptly at 5 p.m. and conclude by 6:30 p.m.
The purpose of the 2007 Annual General Meeting is as follows:
- To receive the annual financial statements;
- To elect Directors;
- To appoint auditors;
- To approve Bylaw and Code of Ethics changes
- To transact other such business as may properly come before the meeting or any adjournment there of.

| Urban Encounter 2007 |

The 2007 Urban Encounters Table Top Trade Shows in Edmonton and Calgary were a great success.
There were close to 250 attendees at each show, all having a great chance at some amazing door
